There are several Pros and Cons to using straps when lifting. While, most people quickly result to using straps simply because they want to lift heavier weight and that's all they care about. There are several advantages to using straps, but let's start with the Cons:

  1. Takes away from grip strength- a lot less emphasis on your arm and forearm muscles, which will effect your grip in almost every weight bearing exercise.
  2. Less muscle activation- becau...

After trying several different recipes, I have developed my own protein bars. I have made several variations of these, but the main ingriedients are always the same. You can mess around with different flavors of protein and spices. Also, I am going to try and put a video of me making them soon. Here is the recipe for now...

After my first competition back in May I have been enjoying a more relaxed and tasty diet. I have been continuing my training, which I have actually been switching up quite a bit. I would say my training has intensified quite a bit, I have been focusing on different types of training like negative, plyometric and Isometric. I have also been incorporating new exercises like cleans, plyo push-ups, plyo squats and one-arm stabilized biceps curl. I will do my best to keep you updated on my new tr...

1 Day Out

Posted on April 30, 2010 at 9:46 PM Comments comments (0)

Tomorrow is the big day, it's the day that I have been preparing for for the last nine weeks. I've pretty much done all I can do at this point, I just need to focus on my posing and routine and hope that there isn't some guy who's go 10 more years of muscle than I do.

I have been eating significantly more carbs today than the other days this week, so as you can imagine that feels good. However, what doesn't feel good is only drinking 32oz of water the entire day. I hav...

Today has been a pretty laid back day despite all of the prep that I have been doing. I applied my first coat of Pro-Tan last night and worked on posing/my routine. I woke up this morning smelling like nasty chemicals, so I jumped in the shower and washed of the skin dye. Surprisingly, a good amount stayed on and I had a pretty decent tan. However, I am still going to apply two more coats; tonight and tomorrow night.

After, I washed off all the dye I headed off to do a...

No More Sodium

Posted on April 28, 2010 at 5:12 PM Comments comments (0)

Today, is the first day that I cut out sodium from my diet. I am actually somewhat glad about this because salty foods aren't always the best tasting. Today was also the last day of weight training for me; I got a morning lift in today and I will be going back for cardio in a bit. The next two days will purely consist of contest prep and light cardio to help eliminate water.

Tonight, after I get out of class I am going to apply my first coat of Pro-Tan for skin darkeni...

Gettin' There

So, this whole very low carb thing is really starting to wear on my body and mind, but I am determined to get through it. Yesterday, was probably my worst day so far. I just felt tired and worn down most of the day. I used caffeine to get me through it, but man I was a little grumpy haha. Anyway, today is a new day I'm feeling slightly better cause I had a few more carbs. Tomorrow I am going to start the skin darkening process which will go on for the next three days. I am planning on cutting...

5 days out and counting...

The INBA Silver & Black competition is only five days away and these are really starting to come together. However, these last five days are critical to my success. I have to start applying Pro-Tan on Wednesday for three consecutive nights. This is a pre-competition skin darkening spray. I am interested to see the weird looks I get walking around town and campus looking like a piece of burnt toast, haha. I have to cut out my sodium Thursday and dramatically decrease my water intake the ni...

1 week out

Posted on April 24, 2010 at 11:42 PM Comments comments (0)

Now, that I am one officially one week out from my competition I am really starting to get close to the physique that I need to be in, in order to get on stage. Today, wasn't too bad for training, I was a little tired during my leg workout this morning, but I was able to catch a second wind this evening while doing cardio.

Today was my last day on creatine, which means I also have to eliminate my pre-workout supplement because it has creatine in it. Unfortunately, it a...
